Adopt or Foster

Ready to take home a Monster?

Hay Monsters has some fantastic buns needing homes!

If you’ve read our policies at the bottom of this page, and all the info on this page and this page, and you’re ready to adopt, click HERE to download our adoption application and email it over to the adoption team at  bun.adoptions@gmail.com

All adoptable rabbits are up to date on wellness exams, spayed or neutered, and (as soon as it’s available) vaccinated.

Not fully ready to commit to a lifelong partnership with just one monster?  Sign up to be a foster parent.  HMRS always needs safe, loving homes for rabbits.  Some may be adoptable, and some may be pending adoptable status due to medical needs or awaiting spay/neuter.  HMRS covers the Monster’s food and vet bills, and provides a pen and litter box.  All we ask is that you keep them safe and cared for, take them to appointments and allow potential adopters to meet them.  If this sounds like your thing, click HERE and email your application over to us at bun.adoptions@gmail.com

Adoption Policies

Home Visits: All home visits will be done on FaceTime or Google Duo.

Children and rabbits: Rabbits are NOT a pet “for” a child.  The adopter and primary caregiver must be over 18 years of age. Children under the age of 12 should be supervised with any pets at all times.  If there are children between the age of 4 and 12 in the home, they must be shown how to correctly interact with rabbits during the home visit video call.

Indoor Housing: Any rabbit adopted from Hay Monsters Rabbit Sanctuary will be housed indoors and sleep every night indoors. Outside time is not suggested, but if you must bring your rabbit outside:  Do so only if supervised, and in areas where no pesticides, fertilizer or other chemicals are used.  Rabbits absolutely should not be allowed in areas where horses, rodents or any other outdoor animals may have access to.  Rabbits should be vaccinated against RHDV2.

Social Requirements: A single rabbit adoption will be allowed only if the the adopter has a rabbit they are looking for a friend for.  If the adopter doesn’t have a rabbit, a pair of bonded rabbits may be the only option.  Some rabbits are not recommended for bonding and will be adopted as singles in certain circumstances.

Returns: If, for any reason, you cannot keep your rabbit(s) adopted from Hay Monsters Rabbit Sanctuary, the rabbit(s) shall be returned to us. Adoption fees WILL NOT be refunded, and we may reserve the right to deny any adoption applications thereafter.  If you have bonded the rabbit with another, both must be surrendered together.

Adoption Fees: HMRS adoption fees are considered non-refundable, tax deductible donations. These donations help recover the extensive vet bills associated with spay and neuter surgeries, vaccinations, deworming, and the daily care for the rabbit(s) for as long as they are with us prior to adoption.  These donations also help to ensure we can continue our mission or rescue and rehabilitation. Adoption minimum donations are as follows:

  • Single – $105
  • Bonded Pair – $195

Forever Foster Program

Forever Foster is a unique way to take home a bunny.  When you become a forever foster, you become a part of the Hay Monsters family.  You provide all the regular things for your bunny that an adopter would, but Hay Monsters will continue to take care of medical decisions and expenses for the life of the Monster.  Adoption policies listed above apply, aside from the adoption fee.  Adoption fees are waived since the rabbit remains legal property of Hay Monsters Rabbit Sanctuary.

An easy example to explain better is Butter.  Butter went to forever foster with his sweet human named Emily.  She takes him to his vet appointments and does all his regular daily care.  We cover the vet costs and the medications he needs.  When his eye ruptured we consulted with the vet and paid for his enucleation.

Only certain bunnies are eligible for this program, so check the Meet the Monsters page to see if we have anyone ready right now.  If not, we always have requests to take on new medical cases and could potentially place a new rabbit with you.  Send an THIS APPLICATION to HaymonstersRS@gmail.com if youre interested in this program.  Applicants must have previous indoor rabbit experience and be comfortable with wound cleaning, syringe feeding, administering medications, and surgical recoveries.
